If you’re the kind of person who’s constantly propping your phone up against a water bottle to watch a video, or fumbling to get the perfect angle for a video call, you already know the struggle. One small, sturdy stand can completely change the game — and lately, I’ve been obsessed with the Ulanzi MA30, a folding MagSafe phone tripod.

There are approximately a million phone stands and mini tripods on the market, and picking one can feel overwhelming. But after using this one for a while, I can confidently say: if you just want something that works, this is it.

Why I Actually Like This Thing

The MagSafe Snap Is Ridiculously Strong

The mounting point uses a genuinely powerful magnet. Bring your phone close and it just snaps into place — no fiddling, no clips, one-handed in under a second. Unless you’re swinging it around like a maniac, it’s not coming off. As a bonus, the back is also magnetic, so you can stack on accessories like an LED light or a filter if you want to build out your setup.
It Doesn’t Feel Cheap

This is where a lot of budget tripods fall apart — literally. The MA30 skips the flimsy plastic and goes with high-grade aluminum alloy instead, so it actually feels solid in your hand. The legs also have soft silicone tips, which means no scratched-up desks and a stand that won’t slide around.
Lighter Than Your Phone, Easy to Toss in a Bag

At just 100g, this thing weighs less than most phones. Folded up, it’s roughly the same footprint as your phone, so it disappears into a bag pocket or even a jacket pocket without a second thought. There’s also a carabiner-style clip built into the top, so you can hook it straight onto a backpack strap or belt loop and go hands-free.
One Stand, Multiple Jobs

- Desk stand — perfect for watching videos or sitting through a Zoom call
- Handheld selfie stick — great for travel or vlogging
- Mini tripod — solid for capturing everyday moments or a kid’s recital
Thanks to the ball head, you can rotate, tilt, and flip between portrait and landscape without any of the usual wrestling match to get the angle right.

A Couple of Things to Know Before You Buy

No product is perfect for everyone, so here’s where the MA30 has limits:
It needs MagSafe. You’ll want an iPhone 12 or newer with MagSafe support, or a MagSafe-compatible case. If your phone or case isn’t compatible, you’ll need to stick on a separate metal ring first.
It’s not built for height. This is a mini tripod/desk stand, not something designed to extend way up for a high-angle shot. If you need serious height, look elsewhere.
Final Verdict

Between the solid aluminum build, the barely-there weight, and that satisfying MagSafe snap, the Ulanzi MA30 is genuinely one of those “just buy it and stop overthinking” products. Whether you’re watching something at your desk, snapping photos on a trip, or filming your kid’s soccer game, it’s a small accessory that earns its spot in your bag.
If you’ve been on the fence about a phone tripod, this is the one I’d point you toward.
